Historic Achievement at Nationals!

This year’s open championship was nothing short of spectacular, filled with excitement and unforgettable moments. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the last race of the day, a nail-bitingly tense relay that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

The 5000m Senior Men’s Relay, saw Victoria and Western Australia in fierce competition, with the lead changing hands several times. The atmosphere was electric as both teams pushed their limits. In the end, the Western Australian team held their nerve to deliver an historic win, much to the delight of their supporters.

Congratulations to all our athletes who smashed their personal bests (PBs) and brought home medals in the individual races. Your hard work and dedication have truly paid off!

• Maya Smallbone, who won the Junior B women’s championship.
• Rachel Tan, who came 2nd in the Junior D women’s division, facing especially steep competition.
• Joshua Seah, who skated up two divisions and came in 3rd overall in the Senior men’s competition, making him the fastest Australian in that division.
• Marc Cherepanskiy, who finished 5th in the Junior E boys, a great result considering the huge number of fast young skaters in his division.
• Will Dewrance, who was 4th in Junior A Men.
• Alex Myint, who came in 7th in Senior Men and shaved 2 seconds off his PB in the 500m, which is truly amazing.
• Will Hunt, who smashed his PB in the 1500m by 7 seconds!
• Chris Nicholson, who came in 2nd for his Master division, even beating his brother in some races. It was wonderful seeing both of them skating together after all these years.

A special shoutout has to go to Coach Frank Anderson for his unwavering support and dedication. From organizing the skaters to ensuring everyone’s equipment was in top shape, and even taking the time to sharpen blades daily, Coach Anderson’s efforts were instrumental in the team’s success.
